Prepare for a more advanced, small-group retreat for dancers who have prior experience working with DanceMode and Brenda Jean Russell.
The program goes beyond steps and sequences, diving deep into mind-body training.
You will develop:
❇️ Heightened body awareness
❇️ Refined physical mechanics for movement efficiency and injury prevention
❇️ Energy balancing for sustainable dance and wellness
❇️ Tools for deepening connection, musicality, and creative choices in Fusion, Blues, and other requested partner dances
We’ll also explore partner dynamics, creative improvisation, and musical interpretation at an advanced level, drawing on our shared training history to go deeper, faster.

If you haven’t trained with DanceMode before, we recommend the Berlin Movement & Blues Immersion (Oct 6–11, 2025).
This retreat is open to new and experienced participants and focuses on:
❇️ Fundamentals of movement mechanics, vernacular, and idiom dances
❇️ Blues as both a social dance and a cultural expression with crossover benefits for Fusion dancers
❇️ Optional wellness components such as Qigong and breathwork
❇️ Mind-body modalities like the Franklin Method, Alexander Technique, anatomical education and imagery, and neurocognitive/neurodynamic imagery to enhance overall movement capacity
❇️ Live sessions with musicians for an organic experience similar to what native dancers grow up with
Even though it’s labelled a “Blues” retreat, the curriculum can include Fusion-focused material and will strengthen your versatility as a partner dancer.

I've been organizing dance retreats and festivals since 2001, in Europe since 2007, and in Berlin since 2012. I want to thank all of the hosts, organizers, musicians, sound professionals, teaching partners, DJs, and attendees who have participated in my retreats, weekend events, dance company, supper club, online courses, and private training.
