About this Event
Born and raised in Uganda and now based in Kenosha, Ben creates music shaped by the places he’s lived, the people he’s met, and the storytelling traditions he grew up with. His songs explore love, loss, perseverance, and belonging—personal experiences transformed into music that invites listeners to find a little of themselves along the way.
His reach has extended far beyond Kenosha. Ben’s performance history includes Summerfest, Blue Ox Music Festival, and Michigan’s Levitt AMP Flint Music Series, bringing his music to audiences well beyond his hometown. Now, you can experience that sound in the close, intimate setting of The White Lilac.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has praised his music as “goosebump-inducing nourishment,” and Ben earned a 2021 Wisconsin Area Music Industry nomination for Male Vocalist of the Year. Those are good reasons to pay attention—and even better reasons to hear him in person.
What began with an acoustic guitar and a songwriter’s voice has grown into The Village: a band that adds depth, drive, and a magnetic groove to Ben’s songs. Expect the emotional pull of a singer-songwriter performance with the energy and richness of a full band.
His debut album, Mr. Mulwana, reflects a journey of persistence and growth. Ben built the recording studio himself, working through setbacks to create a collection rooted in struggle, joy, and the determination to keep going. That personal investment gives listeners another way into the stories behind the music.
Featured on Milwaukee PBS’s Rhythm Cafe MKE and PBS Wisconsin’s Mile of Music, Ben approaches music as a way to connect. As he told Milwaukee PBS: “I want them to know that there is someone that hears you.”
That spirit belongs in a room that listens.
Join us for an evening with Ben Mulwana & The Village, where you can settle in, catch every lyric, and enjoy the musicianship up close.
