What is Lindy Hop?
Lindy Hop evolved in the 1920s and 1930s in the dance halls of Harlem. Dancers created it on the fly in response to the new, changing music that was jazz. Often associated with the Big Band Era – think of Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald – it needs music that really swings.
Rather than following set movement patterns, Lindy Hop mixes 8 count and 6 count patterns with Charleston thrown in. Learning these rhythms opens the door to countless moves and allows you to play and innovate, connecting you to your partner and the music in spectacular joy. It is a contagious, wild, fun time
