Charleston is both a historical precursor to Lindy Hop and a style of movement that is integral to Lindy Hop. For this class we will focus on partnered Charleston movement that is a core part of Lindy Hop. Guided by thinking of "Positions, Transitions, and Variations," we will work to enhance your understanding and make Charleston movement a functional and creative part of your social dancing.
We will
- Refresh/re-introduce fundamental technique and common patterns
- Address and dispel common misnomers about Partnered Charleston
- Consider more challenging patterns and choices
- Explore creative improvisation within Charleston movement
This course is Beginning/Intermediate Level, which means students should have at least some introduction/familiarity with Partnered Charleston as a pre-requisite. If you know at least one of the following positions, you will be OK (and you'll know them all by the time we finish!). If you know several of them, you're ideally positioned for this class.
Partnered Charleston Positions:
- Side by Side Charleston
- Kick Thrus
- Face to Face Charleston
- Back or Tandem Charleston
- Hand to Hand Charleston
- Corridors or Airplane Charleston
- Traveling Charleston

What is a "progressive" lesson?
Progressive means that each class builds on the previous one. It is highly encouraged (but not required- we know sometimes things happen) that you plan to join for the whole month of lessons to keep up in class and to show respect to your fellow classmates (<< don't be THAT person ). Because you are committing to the month, we offer a discount for paying for the whole month at the first lesson. This price includes the drop-in lesson at 8:30, the DJ'd social dances AND band nights.
