About this Event
For Culture Days, The Wellness Studio by Cicco Aroma invites you to Before the Butter: The Origin of Shea & Body Care Traditions, a pay-what-you-may, walk-in cultural and creative experience exploring the story behind one of Africa’s most treasured natural ingredients.
Before shea butter became a familiar ingredient on beauty shelves and in body creams around the world, there was the shea tree, the land, the women who carried generations of knowledge, and traditions of caring for the body with what nature provided.
Across parts of Africa, shea has long been connected to nourishment, protection, beauty, wellness and everyday care. But shea is more than the butter we know today. Its story is connected to women’s knowledge and livelihoods, family traditions, community, land and the passing down of practices from one generation to the next.
Before the Butter invites you to look at shea from beyond a commercial lens.
We'll explore where shea comes from, how it has traditionally been used, why it has earned the name “women’s gold,” and how this deeply rooted ingredient made its way into the modern world of body care.
We'll also explore the journey from raw shea to the whipped body butters, balms and skin-care products many of us know today.
Then, we get to create.
Guests will make a small shea-based body-care sample to take home, offering a simple taste of our signature hands-on experiences.
But this isn't a full body butter workshop.
It's a mini experience designed to immerse you in tradition, story and creativity; a moment to learn something new, make something with your hands, and perhaps see a familiar ingredient a little differently.
Because sometimes, to understand the product in your hands, you have to go back to the roots.
Before the body butter, there was shea.
