Beethoven & Banjos: Music of Madagascar
This year, Beethoven & Banjos brings the music of Madagascar to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
Malagasy musicians Mikahely Razafy and Rade Bema join Laurel Premo and Evan Premo for a one-of-a-kind collaboration blending Malagasy traditions with American folk, classical, and improvisational influences.
Mikahely sings in Malagasy and plays guitar and valiha, Madagascar’s traditional bamboo tube zither. Together, the four musicians will spend the week sharing music, arranging, improvising, and creating a program especially for these performances.
