From the wide open spaces of the Appalachian mountains to the riotous rhythms of Beethoven's Seventh — an evening that moves in every sense.
Copland opens with his music for the tender ballet Appalachian Spring, conjuring flowing brooks and frontier hope from a lone clarinet over shimmering strings. Then Philippe Quint takes centre stage for Errollyn Wallen's Violin Concerto: a personal, memory-laden work that chimes and shifts before Beethoven sweeps everything into an unstoppable dance.
