A reminder that only market beef animals need to attend weigh-in, not breeding beef animals. To RSVP for beef weigh-in, call the Extension Office at 641-472-4166 or email [email protected]. When you call or email, we will need the following information:
Exhibitor Name
4-H Club or FFA Chapter exhibiting under
4-H exhibitors need to have a 4-H tag for county and state fair
FFA members exhibiting at the county and state fair need to contact their FFA advisor to have the appropriate FFA tags
For exhibitors in both 4-H and FFA- Once a 4-H or FFA tag has been placed in the animal’s ear, it cannot be removed and switched. Members need to decide if they are showing under 4-H or FFA before attending weigh-in, so the appropriate tag is used.

If your animal already has an 840 tag, it will not be removed, and you will not be charged for a tag. However, your animal must still attend weigh-in, as it needs a beginning weight.
RSVP for beef weigh-in is due Tuesday, November 24 at 4:30 PM. If you do not RSVP, you can still attend weigh-in, but we will ask that you wait until all who have RSVP’d have gone through the line to ensure we have enough tags. If you are unable to attend our weigh-in but plan to show market beef, you will need to contact our office to get information to attend weigh-in at another county.
What to expect at weigh-in:
Members are charged $5/ear tag and $10/retinal image. Cash and checks are accepted. Please bring exact change if possible.
At weigh-in you will need to designate which animals, if any, you intend to exhibit in the following classes:
Advanced Cattle Feeding Pen of 3
Farm Raised Market Heifer or Steer
Breed for Purebred Market Steers
Return Bucket-Bottle Steer or Heifer (should have ear tag from county fair)
Any animal attending a Jefferson County Weigh-in that is not being exhibited at the Jefferson County Fair by a 4-H or FFA member will pay an out of county weigh-in fee of $10 per head, in addition to the cost of any ear tags, DNA punches, or retinal imaging.
