About this Event
We invite you to join The Bee Conservancy at Smiling Hogshead Ranch for an adventure in community science. During this hands-on event, we will focus on photographing bees and other pollinators visiting flowering plants.
Jennifer Palmer, The Bee Conservancy's Director of Horticulture, will discuss the goals behind The Bee Conservancy's Bee the Solution community science program and give an overview of some of the many bee species we might see at Smiling Hogshead Ranch.
You will set up your iNaturalist app account on your phone and we will show you tips on how to capture clear, strategic images of bees and other pollinators.
Then we’ll venture through the Smiling Hogshead Ranch community garden, where you can unwind in the ecologically rich greenspace while observing and exploring nature through the lens of pollinators. We’ll then edit and upload our images to iNaturalist and discuss what we saw!
We will be outdoors for much of this event, so please dress for comfort and suitably for the weather – we recommend hats, sunscreen, comfortable shoes, and bringing a refillable water bottle as well as a fully charged smartphone or camera. We strongly advise that you watch the webinar and set up an iNaturalist account on your phone in advance of the in-person event on 10/24.
