About this Event
There is no distance. There is only how far you can go.
On Saturday October 24th we are in the forest from 6am until 6pm. You pick how much of that day you want: six or twelve hours. Then you go as far as you go.
The real result is what happens to you in that time, not how far you went. But you have to dig deep to get there.
The course is a 4km flat loop in a beautiful local forest. Braden has used this location for many endurance endeavours, his first ultra, and last year an 80km day that this day is based around.
Braden puts it better than we can. We are stronger than we think we are, and endurance is the best therapy to discover power in yourself you never knew. This day has the perfect conditions - a small, non technical course, a tight nit group, supported with food and supplies, and space for you to go through a day of transformation. This time in the forest is to connect with yourself, and to see how far we can go together. There is no expectation - just that you truly find your limit. If 4km pushes your limits, come do that. Seriously. If it's 16km, great. Everyone's limit will be different, the point is the find yours. If you are hiking all day, you might be surprised at what you can do. Pushing the body is just the vehicle to move the mind - that's where the real change in the day happens.
Nobody is competing, it's not a race. The only questions are how long you chose to stay out, and what happened while you were there.
Choose your hours
- 12 hours. Start at 6am. You will begin in the dark, by headlamp, and watch the sun come up.
- 6 hours. Start at 12pm.
Whichever you choose, everyone finishes together at 6pm. The people who have been out since before dawn come in alongside the people who started after lunch. That last hour together is the reason we run it this way.
On foot, at your pace
Run it, walk it, pause, eat, chat with a friend, shuffle solo. There is no minimum speed, no competition, and nothing to qualify for.
Eighteen spots
18 is a ceiling we chose, not a number we ran out of room at. At that size we know who is out there, we can give everyone support, and nobody finishes alone. It is also why it will sell out.
What the day will feel like
The sun rises at 7:48am, so 6am is properly dark. The twelve hour group spends the first hour and three quarters by headlamp in the cold, likely near freezing and possibly with frost, and then the light comes up and the day warms.
Sunset is around 6:20pm. You finish just as the light goes again. You start in the dark, and you end as it returns.
Bring layers you do not mind carrying once you have shed them.
A public event and a fundraiser
This one is open to anyone, and it raises money while we are out there. Details on the cause are coming shortly.
Before the day
Everything practical, parking, kit, what is provided on course, and how the route works, goes to everyone who registers ahead of the day. If you have a question before then, message @coach.braden on Instagram.
If you are wondering whether you are ready for this, that is the right question to be asking, and the answer is usually yes.
