Christmas Spider Legend: This tradition has roots in European folktale, particularly from Ukraine and Germany, and is associated with the origin of tinsel. The story tells of a poor widow who could not afford to decorate her Christmas tree. On Christmas morning, she woke to find that spiders had spun webs all over the tree. A Christmas figure (either Santa Claus or the Christ Child) saw the happy spiders and magically turned the webs into silver and gold tinsel.
Christmas Angel Legend: Angels are a traditional symbol representing the angel Gabriel's role in the Nativity story. The angel Gabriel announced the birth of Jesus to the Virgin Mary and brought good news to the shepherds. Many families place an angel figure on their Christmas tree to commemorate this event.
