About this Event
Bayou Walk & Talk: Three Walks, Three Conversations — Houston
“Skip the lanyard. Walk about two miles and have three curated conversations matched to what you’re working on.”
No ballroom.
No name-badge wall.
No slides.
No stage.
Bayou Walk & Talk is a small professional networking walk built around three conversations instead of a room full of random introductions.
Before the event, tell us two things:
WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON?
and
WHO WOULD BE USEFUL TO MEET?
Houston Opportunity Exchange uses those answers to prepare the walking rounds.
On the morning of the event, you will receive three conversation pairings.
Each round lasts approximately twenty minutes.
Walk.
Talk.
Return to the meeting point.
Change partners.
Go again.
The morning ends with one follow-up you actually intend to make.
WHO IT IS FOR
The event may be useful for:
• Small-business owners• Founders• Independent professionals• Consultants• Local business operators• Experienced professionals• People with useful cross-industry perspective
Some attendees may have experience in investing, corporate decision-making, entrepreneurship, or local business leadership.
Participation by any particular investor, employer, buyer, company, government representative, or decision-maker is not guaranteed.
THE THREE WALKS
The working format is three approximately 20-minute paired walks.
The exact permitted route may be adjusted based on park conditions, trail access, and Buffalo Bayou Partnership requirements.
The total walking distance is expected to be approximately two miles.
WALK 1 - SHARED CONTEXT
Your first match is informed by a similar operating context or business question.
Conversation prompt:
What are you working through right now that another person in business would actually understand?
WALK 2 - COMPLEMENTARY VALUE
This round looks for a relationship between what one person needs and what another person knows.
Conversation prompt:
What would make this conversation useful for both sides?
WALK 3 - USEFUL CONTRAST
Your third match may come from a different professional context.
Conversation prompt:
What perspective do you have that someone in my normal circle probably would not?
YOUR 30-SECOND CONTEXT
This is not a pitch competition.
At the beginning of each conversation, give only enough context to begin:
WHAT I DO
What should the other person know about your work?
WHAT I’M WORKING ON
What is the current question or challenge?
WHY THIS MATCH MAY BE USEFUL
What perspective are you hoping to understand?
Then have the conversation.
THREE CURATED INTRODUCTIONS
Houston Opportunity Exchange prepares the matching plan from attendee registration information.
A curated introduction means the organizer identified a potential reason for two people to talk.
It does not guarantee:
• A customer• A contract• A partnership• An investment• A referral• A hiring opportunity• A future appointment• A particular professional outcome
Both participants independently decide whether they wish to continue the relationship.
FOLLOW-UP NOTES
After the three rounds, complete:
MATCH 1
What was useful?
MATCH 2
What was useful?
MATCH 3
What was useful?
Then choose:
ONE FOLLOW-UP I WILL ACTUALLY MAKE
Examples may include:
• Send a promised resource• Connect professionally• Request another conversation• Make an introduction you offered• No follow-up
There is no requirement to continue every match.
