We grew up being told to be proper. Dress a certain way. Speak a certain way. Listen to the “right” music.
But for a lot of us growing up West Indian, the soundtrack was never just one thing.
It was Bollywood at home🎬 Soca at the family function💃🏽Dancehall when the cousins took over the speaker🔊 Afrobeat on the playlist🌍 Amapiano on the late-night drive🚗 and Chutney for when the liquor was hitting🥁
That mix is what created B.A.S.S. - Bolly Afro Soca Society.
This is the West Indian Fusion Experience - where the music we grew up with meets the music we grew into.
Expect the music blended, flipped and mashed together in ways you don’t usually hear in one room.
We call the sound West Indian Pop.
