Basic Bobbin Lace

Bobbin Lace, known as Bone Lace in previous centuries, Developed in Italy in the 15th century, the skill of making bobbin lace soon spread across Europe. The wearing of elaborate handmade lace became a status symbol among the elite of Europe and a lucrative cottage industry in rural communities.

While the patterns can be quite complex based on the number of bobbins used and the difficulty of the design, bobbin lace has only two basic stitches and can be used to make something as simple as a bookmark.
