About this Event

Keep active and enjoy rich traditional music from the Balkans. Balkan folk dances are traditional chain dances with repetitive patterns - no partner is required. This is not Bregovich music! :)

Please note: * Offer for 3 visits is valid for new visitors only! If you have tried before and would like to visit, please get in touch by email to discuss options or buy the full membership option.

If you book closer to the end of the month, you can use your visits in the next one (subject to scheduled dates).

** Please bring a clean pair of soft sole shoes that you will use only in the studio (details below)

You are not expected to dance for the whole visit, especially during the first few. You can decide by yourself. Book here only for the first day when you will attend, after that it is not necessary. (The offer includes 3 visits in the period).

*** No practice on March 11th and 13th.

TRY ALONE, TRY ALONG in March/ April! What does it mean?

It is an opportunity to join the dance practices without committment. You will dance behind the main chain of dancers mostly but as the practise progresses, the new dances will be explained and you can join. We will aim to include you in the main chain as soon as you are ready and will support you with explanations :). If you would like, after the first three visits, we can discuss your options to continue with the group. Initial fee can be substracted from full membership.

On Fridays, the level of the participants is beginners/improvers. Tempo of the dances is slow to moderate. There are repetitions of some explanations and clarifications.

On Wednesdays, in the first part we repeat some of the dances from Friday but without explanations. The second part is suitable for dancers with better coordination and rhythmic skills and you can try behind the experienced dancers. In any case, during your three visits you will see what we practice, ask questions, learn dances etc.

***

What to expect in the Friday class (duration 1h, incl. 5 min break) :

  • Basic exercises and music for warm up.
  • Break down and practise some basic steps / combinations.
  • Learn a few dances - some are with very easy combinations, others might be a bit more complicated. You can participate as you wish. Focus is on dances from ethnographic areas that are in today's Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, North Macedonia.
  • Improve on dances from previous evenings.

Social dance part (duration 30 min).:

  • We can practise some of the dances without detailed explanations.
  • Sometimes you will have the opportunity to listen to / dance on live music (bagpipe and two-sided drum).
  • Socialise or learn more advanced dances.
  • Other related music/social activities.

What to wear:

Please bring a clean pair of soft sole shoes that you will use only in the studio (trainers are ok, or others that are not with a hard sole. They don't have to be special dance shoes). I reserve the right to refuse participation if you don't have it. Dancing barefoot or with socks is not suitable.

The studio is in Santry, just beside Omni shopping centre, near bus stops and with free parking. Usually you can use the parking spaces that are just after the entrance of the business park but if there is none available, try other parking spaces in the business park.

Please check the address in advance for your first visit and let me know by email if you need further details. We have WhatsApp group - send me your phone number if you would like me to include you. Revolut payment is available.
