About this Event
In addition to its regular weekday hours (10-4 Wed-Fri), Founder’s Hall Museum hosts a monthly weekend open house. Visitors can enjoy special themed highlights and activities, along with the opportunity for a self-guided visit to the museum.
Grab your slate pencils and come to Founder’s Hall to learn about the founding of Girard College, what life was like at Girard in early days, and about some of the other institutions which were inspired by this unique school.
See archival materials that are not normally on display, try your hand at a 19th century art lesson, and of course, check out the museum.
This month we’re tag-teaming with the Wagner Free Institute of Science, a free educational institution which was founded by Girard’s former employee William Wagner (wonder where he might have gotten that idea…). They will also be hosting a First Saturday open house from 12-4, focused on their creation and early history. The Wagner is only a mile from our front gate, so come to Founder’s Hall, then head over to check them out!
Before you go
- This open house event is FREE, and open to everyone. Advance registration is helpful for us, but walk-in visitors are very welcome.
- Founder's Hall is a National Historic Landmark. The museum is located on the second floor and requires climbing a flight of stairs to view.
- Because Girard College is an active school, you will quickly check in with security when arriving on campus.
- Parking is available for free on-site; we are also accessible by several bus lines and are a half-mile walk from the Girard Avenue subway stop.
- Check out www.foundershall.org for more information about our programs, collections, and online resources
