Three extraordinary artists illuminate the genius of Bach and Handel in an intimate afternoon of virtuosity, beauty and musical discovery.
About this Event

Close Encounters With Music welcomes internationally celebrated pianist Simone Dinnerstein for an afternoon devoted to two towering figures of the Baroque: Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel.

Known for performances of remarkable intimacy, intelligence, and emotional depth, Dinnerstein first captured international attention with her landmark recording of Bach’s Goldberg Variations, establishing her as one of the most distinctive interpreters of Bach of her generation. She joins CEWM Artistic Director and cellist Yehuda Hanani and violinist Hannah Sohn for a program that brings the grandeur of Bach and Handel into the immediacy of chamber music.

Rather than music preserved behind glass, this is Bach and Handel experienced up close: intricate counterpoint unfolding between instruments, melodies passing from one voice to another, and music of extraordinary architecture revealing an equally extraordinary humanity.

The concert is part of Close Encounters With Music’s 35th Anniversary Season, “Celebration & Discovery,”continuing CEWM’s signature tradition of pairing world-class performance with Yehuda Hanani’s illuminating commentary and storytelling. The result is an experience that invites audiences not simply to hear great music, but to enter into it—to discover the personalities, ideas, history, and connections behind the notes.

From Bach’s profound emotional and spiritual world to Handel’s theatrical brilliance and irresistible vitality, this February program offers a midwinter afternoon of warmth, virtuosity, and musical discovery in the Berkshires.
