About this Event
Know before they go. B Safe at Spring Break is a three-hour, live security and safety course for students heading to spring break without their parents.
Spring break is a rite of passage. For many students, it is also the first time they travel without a parent, in a place where the rules, the risks, and the available help are all unfamiliar. In one morning, I teach students how to avoid the most common problems, how to recognize trouble early, and what to do when something goes wrong.
The course is practical, honest, and built on real situations, not scare tactics.
Who It Is For
High school juniors and seniors and college freshmen and sophomores who are heading to spring break without their parents. The course focuses on popular beach destinations, including Florida, Cancún, Punta Cana, Montego Bay, and Puerto Rico, but the content is valuable for any destination.
Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and friends of the family may register a student as a gift.
What Students Learn
- Travel problems: how to prepare for lost documents, lost phones, changed plans, and other common surprises.
- Water safety: how to stay safe at the beach, at the pool, and on the water.
- Nightlife, alcohol, and drug safety: how to look out for themselves and their friends, and how to recognize and respond to an emergency.
- Personal security: how to choose safe lodging and transportation, protect belongings and personal information, and meet new people safely.
- Who to call and when: how to get help quickly, whom to call, and what to say.
The course is mostly lecture, with built-in discussions and real-world examples. Students complete a short knowledge check before and after the session. Sessions are live and never recorded.
