AYEKANTUN is a night celebrating the extraordinary music that has travelled between Latin America, the Caribbean, West Africa, New York and beyond.
DJs Carlos de Santiago and special guest DJ Junín will take you on a musical journey from NYC through Puerto Rico, Cuba, Panamá, Colombia, Venezuela, Perú and Brasil, digging into the sounds of salsa, cumbia, samba, boogaloo and more.
Everything is played exclusively on vinyl, with an emphasis on the records, rhythms and sounds that make people want to dance.
What does AYEKANTUN mean?
Ayekantun is a word in Mapudungun, the language of the Mapuche people of Chile and Argentina.
It describes the idea of enjoying oneself joyfully through conversation, laughter, dancing and music – a fitting name for a night built around music, people and shared enjoyment.
Expect a journey through:
Salsa • Cumbia • Samba • Boogaloo • Latin Soul • Tropical sounds and more
This isn't about staying neatly within individual genres or countries. AYEKANTUN follows the records and the musical conversations that travelled between cities, islands and countries – from New York and Puerto Rico to Cuba, Colombia, Venezuela, Perú, Brasil and beyond.
Come to dance, come for the records, or simply come and enjoy the music.
Supporting Revival, East Kent Mind
AYEKANTUN is a fundraiser for Revival, East Kent Mind.
The evening is being held in support of the charity's work helping local people with their mental health and wellbeing.
