About this Event
Join us for a guided walk along the beautiful River Axe towards Weycroft, and discover the rich heritage of this remarkable landscape. David Knapman, local historian at Axminster Heritage Centre, will bring to life the stories of the people who have lived and worked alongside the river for centuries, from farming and milling to trade and transport. Harry Shaw, ranger for the Rivers Run Through Us project, will explore the river's natural heritage, revealing the wildlife, habitats and ecological processes that make the Axe such a special place. From ancient landscapes and historic communities to modern conservation efforts, this walk offers a unique opportunity to discover how people and nature have shaped the river and its surrounding countryside through time.

Please meet at the South West corner of Tesco Carpark, Axminster. There are various parking options but please ensure you check local parking restrictions.
The route will be uneven in some places and potentially wet/ muddy underfoot. Please wear appropriate footwear and dress according to the weather. The walk will take approximately two hours, starting and finishing at Tesco using public footpaths and pavements. Please contact event organisers if you have any questions, and let the walk leaders know at the start of the walk if you have any access needs. They may be able to direct you to a shorter walk.
