Autumnal Alchemy
Natural Perfumery for the Seasonal Threshold
As the wheel turns toward the darker half of the year, nature demonstrates the beauty of transformation and invites us to honour the energies of harvest, remembrance, liminality and the inevitable return to darkness.
In this immersive natural perfumery class, we will explore the scents, stories, and botanical allies of the season, discovering how a bespoke fragrance can be ritualized for remembrance, release, and renewal.
We'll work with autumn's aromatic palette: Herbs and flowers, fruits and spices, woods, roots, resins, smoke and earth, while exploring their folklore and their roles in the art of natural perfumery.
Through scent, we'll journey through three movements of the season as they correlate with perfume structure:
Harvest: Gathering what has nourished us, offerings, top notes.
Descent: Crossing the threshold into the dark half of the year, remembrance, heart notes.
Transformation: Allowing what has ripened and completed to compost back into the earth, release, base notes.
Along the way, you'll learn the fundamentals of natural perfume composition and the art of bringing contrasting materials together. Light and shadow, sweetness and bitterness, bloom and decay, these elements balance one other to create depth, character, and harmony on every level.
You'll create your own autumnal perfume, guided by your personal relationship with the season and the themes of what you wish to gather and honour, what you are ready to release, and what you will carry forward beyond the threshold and turning of the season.
No previous perfumery experience is necessary, all supplies included.
Cost is $150, you will leave with a full sized, alcohol based natural perfume, perfumer’s notes, grimoire prints of botanical folklore, magickal correspondences as well as scent rituals to bring into your practice.
Your Guide: Amber Haase
For more than two decades, Amber Haase has worked with the botanical world as a maker, perfumer, wildcrafter, and teacher. Her journey into natural perfumery grew from a lifelong fascination with plants, scent, folklore, and the hidden stories held within the natural world.
As the creator behind Element Botanicals and the proprietor of Wild Craft, Amber brings together natural perfumery, folk herbalism, botanical lore, and the intentional art of witch crafting. For over a decade, she has been creating and teaching natural fragrance, exploring scent not simply as an adornment, but as a catalyst for memory, connection, creativity, and personal transformation.
Through her classes and workshops, Amber invites others to slow down, engage their senses, explore the folklore and character of botanical allies, and discover their own creative relationship with the natural world.
