Join us for a seasonal walk through our beautiful ancient woodland nature reserve.About this Event
This walk will take you around our woodland nature reserve. You will have a chance to learn about the local history of the site as well as looking out for seasonal wildlife such as autumnal colours and fabulous fungi.
Nower Wood is a semi-ancient oak woodland which may date back as far as the Domesday Book. The reserve is also a Site of Nature Conservation Importance (SNCI).
The reserve contains Hazel coppice, a small area of chalk grassland, a small heathland glade, butterfly ride and three man-made ponds.
A number of bird species can be found on site, including Sparrowhawk, Woodcock, woodpecker and Wood Warbler. There is also an assortment of tits as well as Treecreepers and Nuthatches. Adders and Grass Snakes are occasionally seen, whilst Roe Deer, Badgers and Foxes have all been regularly recorded.
Important information:
The walk is approximately 1.5 miles through woodland. The walk will be on footpaths with some steep hills.
Walking or wellington boots are recommended as the site does get very muddy. We will walk at a gentle pace with lots of opportunities to stop and ask questions.
This walk is aimed at adults (18+ years old). Unfortunately this site is not suitable for wheelchair users or people with limited mobility. Please do not bring dogs on this walk.

Parking is available on site: Nower Wood Education Centre, Mill Way, Leatherhead KT22 8QA. - see map / image below
Please park in the lower car park and walk up the steps. These begin under the sign saying ‘Welcome to Nower Wood’. However, please do drive to the upper car park if you struggle with steps. NB: It is quite a steep climb up the hill!
We will meet you outside the Education Centre.
