What We’ll Be Doing On The Trail
- Spot Migrating Birds: Scan the water, forest understory, and canopy for resting and refuel-seeking songbirds, waterfowl, and winter residents.
- Play "Seed Detective": Get hands-on with post-bloom asters, goldenrods, and milkweeds to see how seed shapes reveal their dispersal strategies—from wind-borne parachutes to hitchhiking burs.
- Follow the "Ecological Highway": Trace the Jackson Creek corridor to discover how forested waterways act as critical lifeline routes for wildlife navigating urban Peterborough.
- Track Late-Season Pollinators: Search sunny meadow pockets for late-blooming flowers sustaining bees and migrating monarch butterflies.
- Decode Layered Habitats: Learn how to "read" a landscape and spot the micro-habitats birds depend on for food and shelter.
