About the book
The Jewel of Sugar Hill connects two women across centuries who become obsessed with saving a grand, crumbling estate in upper Manhattan. In the 1800s, ambitious Eliza Bowen rises from poverty to marry wealthy wine merchant Stephen Jumel, determined to carve out a place in elite society and restore the stately Morris-Jumel Mansion. In 2010, architect Abby Dorrance returns home following a personal scandal, only to lose her father in a suspicious fall at the very same run-down house. As Abby volunteers at the museum to investigate his death and protect the building from demolition, both women must battle societal expectations and greed to preserve their legacies.
