We invite you to an afternoon signing with three wonderful local authors: Dan Bates, Shayla Jones, & Lynn Rogers!
ABOUT PINNACLE
The energies of the world are in balance. They must stay in balance.
Beneath twin magical suns, the kingdom of Forthwind enjoys relative stability. This is largely due to the efforts of Tower Mages to maintain magical equilibrium. Amid their search for dangerous invaders, Gelwin and his mentor, Ishani, are led to Arbaz, a small mining village from which much of the kingdom’s wealth flows. They discover the normally quiet village plagued with violence, its lawkeepers overwhelmed in their efforts to maintain order.
As he seeks to help his mentor find the hidden invaders and to help the townspeople restore balance, Gelwin’s knowledge and experience are tested in ways he never expected.
ABOUT DAN BATES
D. K. Bates is a fantasy author and educator with a passion for storytelling, worldbuilding, and the power of imagination. His formative years weren't just spent in this world, but many more including Middle Earth, the Star Wars universe, and the Cosmere. His debut fantasy novel, Pinnacle, introduces readers to the world of Lokaria, where ordinary lives collide with extraordinary forces and the fate of a much larger world begins to unfold.
When he isn’t writing, Dan works in higher education, enjoys tabletop roleplaying games, and spends time with his wife and two cats. He is currently developing new fantasy projects and continuing to expand the stories he loves to tell.
ABOUT SCARS THAT SPEAK
In Scars that Speak, Shayla writes from a deeply personal space—one shaped by moments of pain, self-reflection, and the desire to release what could not be spoken aloud. What began as private writing during a dark season became a powerful outlet for healing. Her poetry reflects raw, honest conversations with herself, inviting readers to confront their own emotions with courage and compassion.
ABOUT SHAYLA JONES
Shayla Jones is a secondary math teacher and crisis advocate who supports individuals experiencing domestic and sexual violence. Raised in a Christian home, she has navigated her own journey with depression and anxiety since adolescence while striving to meet expectations and find her place in the world.
Shayla is passionate about dance, advocacy, and trauma-informed care, and she hopes her work offers others a safe and alternative path toward healing. Through her words, she seeks to remind readers that even in brokenness, growth is possible—and that choosing to face yourself is one of the bravest things you can do.
ABOUT MEMORIES: GROWING UP IN LIVE OAK, FLORIDA

— Lynn Rogers
ABOUT LYNN ROGERS
Lynn came to FSU in 1961 from Live Oak.
