Luz Maria Mack is a storyteller, seasoning everything she touches with her Dominican roots into the fabric of her children's literature, infusing it with the warmth and vibrancy of her South Bronx community. Holding a Master's in Public Administration from Metropolitan College of New York, Luz's narrative arc has stretched from Villa Mella to the bustling cultural mosaic of New York, enriched by her dedication to community service in hospitals and non-profits. The muse for her stories springs from her family life with her husband and three children, whose experiences echo the joys and resilience of her Dominican and African heritage.
Luz's narrative artistry has been recognized and celebrated widely. She received the Best Animated Short Film at Bridge Fest in 2020, and her enchanting book "¡Pequeña Maria Descubre su baile!" was showcased on PBS's Chat and Learn in 2021. Her collaboration with the Disney Storybook Art Team resulted in the cherished "Family is Everything (Disney Encanto)" picture book. Her latest treasure, "The Secret of the Plátano," soared to a #1 New Release on Amazon and garnered a spot among the Best Children's Picture Books of 2023 by Bank Street College of Education. Luz's cultural contributions have been honored by Bronx President Vanessa Gibson, the Bridge Builders 2023 Women Empowerment Award, and the 2023 Schneps Media Latin Impact Award. Luz persists in her mission to enlighten and inspire, guiding young readers to discover and embrace their heritage with pride and love within the pages of her books.
