Local author Howard Frisk presents his debut novel, Peg Leg Annie: The Story of Anna Morrow. It’s historical fiction based on the true story of Anna Morrow, a legend of Idaho’s 19th century gold mining towns.Although Howard’s previous works were non-fiction, he realized that Peg Leg Annie’s life story existed somewhere between truth and legend—territory best explored through storytelling. The result is his first work of historical fiction: a novel that brings new life to one of Idaho’s most enduring frontier legends. Howard Frisk will be offering signed copies of his debut historical novel, Peg Leg Annie: The Story of Anna Morrow. It’s a gripping work of historical fiction set in the gold mining camps of 19th-century Idaho, Peg Leg Annie tells the story of a woman who refuses to be broken by the frontier. Annie McIntyre comes west with the promise of a better life, only to discover how quickly a dream can curdle into a nightmare. She marries to escape one cage and finds herself locked inside another—beaten, controlled, and ultimately separated from the children she loves most.
Selected works of Howard’s non-fiction will also be available for your perusal.
A recent review:
“I had to keep my tissue box close as I read this biographical account of Anna Morrow, one of the many unsung true-life heroines of American history. With the keen observation skill his photographer's eye has perfected in him, author Howard Frisk has also captured the joys and tragedies, the triumphs and disasters of Anna's life with amazing tenderness and insight. It's a can't-put-it-down novel that opens the reader to the soul of a woman at the mercy of the sometimes tender, sometimes cruel Western frontier that could make a man rich but eat a woman alive.. This inaugural work by a new author is absolutely not to be missed.” – Sandra L.
