About this Event

Dates: Thursday 18th March 9:30am – 4:30pm, and Friday 19th March 9:30am – 4pm, 2027

Location: Deakin Downtown Corporate Centre, Level 12, Tower 2, 727 Collins Street, Melbourne

Join us for the Australian Lifestyle Psychiatry Symposium (ALPS) 2027: Moving Mental Health Research Forward — Connecting Evidence, Experience, Practice and Policy.

Building on the success of ALPS 2026, this two-day symposium will bring together researchers, people with lived experience of mental ill-health, carers and supporters, clinicians, service providers, policymakers, community representatives and other stakeholders to strengthen and advance lifestyle psychiatry research in Australia.

Through presentations, panel discussions and interactive sessions, ALPS 2027 will explore research priorities, evidence gaps and methodological challenges—and how research can be better informed by lived experience, clinical practice, service needs and policy priorities. Together, attendees will consider practical opportunities to strengthen research, translation, collaboration and impact.

Program highlights will include:

  • A keynote plenary presentation by A/Prof Felipe Schuch, with more plenary sessions to be announced.
  • An interactive workshop focused on translating research evidence into clear, practical and policy-relevant messages.
  • More presenters to be announced, including presentations featuring research, lived experience, clinical, service, implementation and policy perspectives.
  • A multidisciplinary panel examining how lifestyle psychiatry research can better respond to lived experience, clinical realities, service needs and policy challenges.
  • Opportunities to build connections and collaborations across disciplines, sectors, career stages and areas of experience.

The full program will be released shortly. Following the success of last year’s symposium, places are expected to be in high demand - register early to secure yours.

Submit a presentation proposal

What knowledge, evidence or experience could help move lifestyle psychiatry research forward?

We invite proposals from researchers, people with lived experience of mental ill-health, carers and supporters, clinicians, service providers, policymakers, community and advocacy representatives, students, early-career professionals and others working across lifestyle and mental health.

Proposals could share:

  • current or emerging research
  • research priorities, evidence gaps or methodological challenges
  • lived-experience, carer or clinical perspectives
  • examples of integrating lifestyle approaches into clinical practice, programs or services
  • lessons from implementation, policy or research translation
  • ideas for strengthening collaboration and impact.

You do not need to be a researcher or have formal research findings to contribute. We welcome research evidence, practice-based knowledge and lived-experience perspectives that can help make lifestyle psychiatry research more relevant, rigorous and useful.

Submit your presentation proposal here.

Submissions close: 9th November 2026.
