The Book Club chose The Halloween Tree for our next selection, but it's pretty short . . . so there's an optional additional Ray Bradbury read for those who'd like, Something Wicked This Way Comes. In The Halloween Tree, a group of boys travel through history and mythology searching for their friend and discovering where Halloween traditions come from. It's technically a children's/YA book, but Bradbury's treatment of death, friendship, ritual and humanity's relationship with mortality will give us plenty to discuss.
In Something Wicked, a mysterious carnival arrives in an Illinois town in October, offering people exactly what they think they want. Underneath the Halloween imagery, it’s about desire, aging, fear, friendship, temptation, and what makes a life worth living. It also bridges into yoga philosophy—kama, attachment, mortality, contentment, even maya.
"Bradbury’s prose is beautiful and almost incantatory." Join us to discuss if you can, and bring a snack to share. Register at AumanaYoga.com when we activate the link.
