Mitch Albom'sTUESDAYS WITH MORRIE
By Jeffrey Hatcher
Presented by Ekklesia Theatre
Directed by Sharon Mann Metts
Join us for auditions on Monday, October 26, 2026, at 6:30pm at the U.S. Digital Outreach Center!
We’re casting two actors for this moving, funny story of a beloved teacher and his former student—and the conversations that change both their lives.
ABOUT THE PLAY
Based on Mitch Albom’s bestselling memoir, Tuesdays with Morrie follows a successful sports journalist who reconnects with his former college professor, Morrie Schwartz, as Morrie faces ALS. Their weekly visits become an exploration of love, family, mortality, and what makes a meaningful life.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
The relationship between these two men is everything. We’re seeking actors with strong chemistry who can make an audience believe their shared history and move from laughter to heartbreak without forcing either one.
ROLES:
Morrie Schwartz | Male, 50–80
A retired college professor who is warm, intelligent, funny, curious, and deeply compassionate. The actor must portray Morrie’s physical decline truthfully while preserving his humor, dignity, and enormous appetite for life. Seeking vulnerability without sentimentality.
Mitch Albom | Male, 25–45
A former classical/jazz pianist turned successful sports journalist. Intelligent, ambitious, and quick-witted, Mitch has allowed his career to crowd out the life he once imagined. Seeking an actor who can balance humor, skepticism, affection, and emotional restraint as Morrie gradually breaks through his defenses.
