ABOUT THE SHOW The Tony Award-winning musical comedy The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee follows six delightfully quirky middle school students as they compete for spelling bee glory. Along the way, they reveal their hopes, insecurities, and personal stories through hilarious and heartfelt musical numbers. Packed with laugh-out-loud comedy, audience participation, and touching moments of self-discovery, this charming musical celebrates the awkwardness and resilience of growing up.
WHO CAN AUDITION? No experience is necessary. All roles are open. This is a non-paid volunteer performing opportunity. Performers ages 16 and up are encouraged to audition. While the characters are portrayed as middle school students, they are traditionally played by older teens and adults.
LOCATION: Auditions, most rehearsals, and performances will be held at: Richey Suncoast Theatre, 6237 Grand Blvd., New Port Richey, FL 34652 Free street parking is available. Please enter through the main lobby doors. PLEASE LIST ANY POTENTIAL SCHEDULE CONFLICTS ON THE ONLINE FORM Casting decisions and rehearsal schedules are based in part on the conflicts provided. We understand that schedules can change, but it is important that all auditioners disclose known conflicts at the time of auditions.

AUDITION PREPARATION:
Please prepare:
A 60-second musical theatre song selection (approximately 16-32 bars).
Please bring recorded accompaniment or a backing track on your phone or device. No a cappella auditions.
Do not prepare a song from The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
Auditioners will also participate in cold readings from the script
Be prepared to learn a short dance combination. Wear clothing and shoes that allow for movement.
WHAT TO EXPECT This production features a small ensemble of strong comedic performers with opportunities for featured singing, improvisation, and character work. The show includes audience interaction and requires performers who are comfortable engaging directly with patrons. Whether you're a seasoned performer or stepping onto the stage for the first time, we encourage you to come out and audition.
Rehearsals: There will be up to 30 rehearsals for this production, plus tech rehearsals and performances. The exact rehearsal schedule is to be determined (based on cast availability)
TECH REHEARSALS ARE MANDATORY - February 14-18, 2027
**Tech week rehearsals are 100% mandatory and can run later into the evening. Be aware that we must run the entire show each night and sometimes that will mean rehearsals can last longer. Anyone with an active role during performances, including actors, crew, and production team must be available and present for all tech week rehearsals.
