Audition Notice for ICC’s Production of Eurydice by Sarah Ruhl
Directed by Bridget Nowicki
Auditions: November 10 @ 6:30pm
Callbacks: November 11 @ 6:30pm
Performances: February 11-13 @ 7:30pm and 14 @ 2pm

I am excited to cast a diverse group of actors across gender expressions, ages, races, cultural backgrounds, and body types to stage Sarah Ruhl’s imaginative retelling of the Orpheus myth, which follows Eurydice into the underworld as she struggles to remember the life and love she left behind.
No advance sign-up is needed; simply arrive at 6:15 p.m. to complete audition paperwork. Auditions will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. Read below for what to expect at auditions.

AVAILABLE ROLES
EURYDICE (she/her, stage age 18-24)
A well-read young woman raised by her father. He taught her to argue and trust her own mind, so she is pragmatic, stubborn, and has a real backbone. She loves Orpheus, even if he doesn't fully see her.

ORPHEUS (he/him, stage age 18-24)
A gifted and charismatic musician who experiences the world through sound. He is lovable, infuriating, and genuinely self-involved. He loves Eurydice deeply, though not in quite the same way he loves music.

THE FATHER (he/him, stage age 40-65)
In life he was likely a gentle and brilliant humanities professor. He raised Eurydice to be his equal. Endures grief with dry humor and startling tenderness. The emotional bedrock the whole play stands on.

NASTY INTERESTING MAN & LORD OF THE UNDERWORLD (he/him, stage age 25-99)
One actor creates two faces of the same man. As the Nasty Interesting Man: a man performing sophistication he doesn't have. As the Lord of the Underworld: a feral, unpredictable, and terrifying man-child.

THE STONES - Big, Little, Loud; a chorus of three (any gender, stage age 18-99)
Three cunning stones who have made peace with the underworld’s rules and become its most persuasive salespeople. They provide comic relief with teeth. Big and Little stones are literally big and little sized, while Loud is defined by their energetic presence. Looking for people who can bring creative interpretation.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT AUDITIONS & CALLBACKS

Auditions are Tuesday 11/10 at 6:30-9:30pm in the Studio of the PAC. Plan to arrive no later than 6:15pm to fill out your audition form. There will be an all-auditionee meeting at 6:30pm, followed by a guided improvisational activity. Wear something that allows you to move comfortably. Actors will then be given sides to read. Please block off the entire audition time slot, though you may be released earlier depending on how the evening progresses. To increase your chances of being cast, read the play in advance and consider where your own unique qualities and life experience might best serve the play.

Callbacks are Wednesday 11/11 from 6:30-9:30pmin the Studio of the PAC. The following relationships will be explored: Eurydice & Orpheus, Eurydice & the Father, Eurydice & NIM/LOTU, and the Stones (Big/Little/Loud). Expect to participate in guided improvisation and read selected scenes from the script. Actors called back will likely be called at specific times according to the role for which they are called back. Those called back for the role of Eurydice should plan on attending the entire evening.

Rehearsals: The first rehearsal will be Monday 11/16 at 6:30pm. Due to several factors, this rehearsal process will have a unique rehearsal schedule. We will not rehearse 12/11/26-1/3/27 due to ICC’s winter break and will rehearse only a few times 1/4-1/18/27. Please be forthcoming with all conflicts.

Performances: We will have performances on Thursday 2/11, Friday 2/12, Saturday 2/13, @ 7:30pm and Sunday 2/14 @ 2pm. There is a chance that we will be doing an additional student matinee; TBD.

EURYDICE is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc.
