About the Play
Set in the late 1990s, what begins as a simple blind date develops into a chilling story of obsession, control and survival. Boy Gets Girl is a powerful and timely drama examining stalking, misogyny and the dangers women face when ordinary interactions turn threatening.
Audition Information
Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. No prepared monologues will be required.
Roles are available for three women and four men. All roles are open to actors of any race, ethnicity, and body type. We encourage individuals of every gender identity, race, ethnicity, and ability to audition.
Rehearsal Schedule
Please bring a complete list of your scheduling conflicts to auditions. Rehearsal days and times will be arranged based on the availability of the cast. A detailed schedule will be provided once the show has been cast.

The play deals with sensitive subject matter, mature language, and themes involving stalking, misogyny, sexual objectification, and threats of violence.

Available Roles
THERESA BEDELL | Female | 30s-40s
A smart, successful and independent journalist who writes for a New York cultural magazine. The life she has worked hard to build is upended over the course of the story. This is a demanding leading role requiring range, depth and the ability to convey Theresa’s ferocity and gradual loss of security and control without losing sight of her strength.
TONY | Male | 30s-40s
An attractive, seemingly ordinary man who meets Theresa on a blind date. When she decides not to see him again, his initially polite persistence escalates into an obsessive fixation. Tony should be genuinely likable and normal, with the ability to slowly and subtly unmask menace and rage, particularly through extensive voiceover work.
HOWARD SIEGEL | Male | 40s-60s
Theresa’s older boss at the magazine. Supportive, concerned and well-meaning, Howard wants to help Theresa but cannot fully understand what she is experiencing. The role calls for warmth, authority and an ability to balance humor with genuine concern.
MERCER STEVENS | Male | 30s-40s
Theresa’s colleague and friend at the magazine. Friendly and easygoing, Mercer provides support and a sense of normalcy as Theresa’s situation escalates. His interactions with Theresa also reveal some of the assumptions men make about women, relationships and romantic pursuit.
HARRIET | Female | 20s-30s
Theresa’s young office assistant. Candid and energetic, if a bit naïve, Harriet brings humor and a younger perspective to the workplace. Her character also highlights contrasting generational attitudes toward women, relationships and sexism.
MADELEINE BECK | Female | 40+
The police detective assigned to Theresa’s case. Practical, experienced and sympathetic, Beck understands the seriousness of the danger but is constrained by what the law allows her to do. She offers Theresa a sobering view of the realities faced by victims of stalking.
LES KENNKAT | Male | 60s-70s
An older, prominent filmmaker whom Theresa is assigned to interview. Colorful, charismatic and unapologetically inappropriate, Les represents an older generation’s attitudes toward gender, sexuality and power. The role offers considerable humor but should not be played as a caricature.
All ages are suggested playing ages and may be adjusted depending on casting.
