This year, join us for auditions for the hilarious classic A Christmas Story. Filled with all of the characters you know and love, this production will be sure to bring holiday cheer to our community. Director Jared Robinson has been working hard on preparations and can't wait to welcome you to auditions! 🎁🎄Humorist Jean Shepherd's memoir of growing up in the midwest in the 1940s follows 9-year-old Ralphie Parker in his quest to get a genuine Red Ryder BB gun under the tree for Christmas. Ralphie pleads his case before his mother, his teacher and even Santa Claus himself at Higbee's Department Store. The consistent response: "You'll shoot your eye out!" All the elements from the beloved motion picture are here, including the family's temperamental exploding furnace; Scut Farkas, the school bully; the boys' experiment with a wet tongue on a cold lamppost; the Little Orphan Annie decoder pin; Ralphie's father winning a lamp shaped like a woman's leg in a net stocking; Ralphie's fantasy scenarios and more.
Auditions will be fun and interactive, starting with improv games to warm up and get to know one another. Attendees should prepare a 2-3 minute monologue from any source you would like, or choose to do a cold reading from selected scenes from the play. It's a laid back and supportive environment, and you will enjoy the evening! 👍🎭

CHARACTER LIST:
Main Characters
• Ralphie Parker (around 9)– A bright, imaginative 9-year-old boy whose Christmas wish is a Red Ryder BB gun. He is the story's central character.
• Adult Ralph Parker (30s-50s) – The narrator and older version of Ralphie who looks back on his childhood memories.
• Mother (20s-40s)– Ralphie's practical, caring, and protective mother. She worries about Ralphie's safety and often says, "You'll shoot your eye out!"
• The Old Man (30s- 50s)- Ralphie's father. Gruff, humorous, and obsessed with battling the family's furnace. He later surprises Ralphie with the BB gun.
• Randy Parker (around 7)– Ralphie's younger brother, known for his quirky behavior and dependence on his mother.
Ralphie's Friends and Schoolmates
• Flick (around 9)– One of Ralphie's best friends. Famous for getting his tongue stuck to a frozen flagpole.
• Schwartz (around 9)– Another friend who often joins Ralphie and Flick in their adventures.
• Esther Jane Alberry (around 9)– A classmate on whom Ralphie has a childhood crush.
• Helen Weathers (around 9)– A popular classmate and friend of Esther Jane.
• Scut Farkus (9 to mid-teens)– The neighborhood bully with a fearsome reputation.
• Grover Dill (9 to mid-teens)– Scut's sidekick.
Adults
• Miss Shields (20s-50s) – Ralphie's teacher. Kind but sometimes stern.
• Santa Claus (any age)– The department store Santa whom Ralphie visits to ask for his dream gift.
