Small Town Talk — Auburn EDC's Town Hall: "Investing in Community: How We Serve Our Community"
Date: October 13 Time: 5:30 – 7:30 PM Location: Auburn City Hall Council Chambers Hosted by: City of Auburn Economic Development Commission
Join the City of Auburn Economic Development Commission for the third in our Small Town Talk series — a conversation about giving back, showing up, and building a community that takes care of its own. Our first Town Hall explored what makes someone shop and spend locally. Our second asked what makes Auburn businesses successful. This time, we're asking a different kind of question: once a business, a family, or a person is doing well in Auburn, how do they give back — and why does it matter?
The evening will open with a welcome from Kathryn Gonzales, who will connect the dots between our last two conversations and tonight's theme — moving from how we support local business to how we all invest in the community around us. The discussion will be facilitated by J Ross Parrelli, Chair of the Auburn Economic Development Commission, TEDx speaker, and founder of Beats Lyrics Leaders, whose work centers on culture, leadership, and community connection.
The panel will feature Tammi Riedi, Elissa Herrera, Colleen Sands, and Sue Thompson, community leaders and changemakers who will share how they've turned passion into purpose, how nonprofits and volunteers keep Auburn strong, and what it really means to serve the place you call home.
Discussion will explore questions such as: What does giving back to our community look like — beyond writing a check? How do we take our passion and turn it into a career or calling? What nonprofits and volunteer opportunities exist right here in Auburn, and how do we get involved? How do we fund the causes we care about? And why do our small businesses choose to give back, even when times are tight?
Residents, business owners, nonprofit leaders, and community members are encouraged to attend, listen, ask questions, and share how they give back — and how Auburn can keep building a culture of service, purpose, and connection.
