About this Event
Attainment and Beyond
At St. Mary's exceptional attainment is not the exception; it is the expectation. For many years, children at St. Mary’s have performed in the top 5% nationally. This success is a result of a curriculum that works.
Our curriculum empowers teachers to teach, and learners to learn. With its careful, logical sequencing of learning, its introduction of new content in incremental steps and its meticulous design, our curriculum ensures that our children make outstanding progress every day. Our curriculum is inclusive in its provision for all learners and as a result vulnerable children at our school, and across the Genesis Education Trust, attain exceptionally.
We leave nothing to chance: in maths we teach number facts explicitly and make practice permanent. In reading, we explicitly teach fluency so that our readers have the tools they need to comprehend.
The effectiveness of our curriculum means that our teachers are able to focus on what really matters: the children - their misconceptions, their next steps and their progress. Our teachers follow what we call the 8-step lesson. The 8-step lesson provides teachers with a clear structure for effective teaching. It employs principles from Rosenshine and practices validated by the Education Endowment Fund.
