At the Threshold: A Gathering for Grief, Ancestors, Sound & the Sacred DarkA collaboration with Kara Markovich & Brent Harris
As we enter the liminal time of the year, when the veil between worlds is said to be thinnest, we are invited to pause at the threshold between the world of the body and the world of soul and spirit.
This is a time of ancestors, change, endings and beginnings. A time to remember those who came before us, to honor those we have loved and lost, and to give thanks for the gifts they have passed down to us.
It is also an invitation to deepen our relationship with our own living and dying.
Together, Kara Markovich and Brent Harris will create a space to honor our ancestors and loved ones, make room for grief, release what no longer serves us, and consciously enter the fertile darkness from which something new can emerge.
Through ritual, sound, reflection and community, we will explore the spaces between presence and absence, holding on and letting go, life and death.
Our gathering will include:
Living Altar Building
-Together we will create a community altar to honor our ancestors and loved ones. You are invited to bring a small photograph, object, flower, or other meaningful offering to place on the altar.
And this altar will not disappear when the evening ends.
It will remain at The Origami House throughout the month of November, offering a physical place for remembrance, reflection and connection. Throughout the month, you are welcome to return to the altar, add an offering, spend time in its presence, or simply pause and remember.
At the end of November, we will gather again for a closing ritual to honor what has been held, offer gratitude, and consciously take down the altar together.
Embodiment / Disembodiment Sound Bath Ceremony
-A guided sound experience inviting us to move between the felt experience of being in the body and the spaciousness of letting go. Sound will offer a pathway into stillness, reflection and release.
Death Meditation
-A guided contemplative practice offering space to turn gently -toward our own mortality and consider what becomes possible when we allow the reality of impermanence to inform the way we live.
Grief Circle & Community Sharing
-A facilitated circle to witness and honor grief in its many forms. There is no expectation to share, only an invitation to be present, listen and be held in community.
This is not a space for answers or resolutions.
It is a space for remembering.
For honoring.
For grieving.
For releasing.
For sitting at the threshold and allowing ourselves to be changed by what we encounter there.
Come as you are. Bring what you are carrying. Bring what you are ready to release. And bring something to place on the altar for someone or something you wish to remember.

*Though mats, bolsters, and blankets will be provided for the sound immersion, we recommend bringing a pillow and a favorite blanket. Please also bring a small photograph, object, flower, or other meaningful offering to place on the altar that may remain there for the month of November.
