We have something to celebrate!
For years, Aya Collective Publishing has been committed to creating spaces where Black women can write in community, share our stories, preserve our knowledge, and honor writing as sacred practice. This work has taken many forms—from workshops and writing gatherings to fellowships, publications, and opportunities to learn from one another.
This December, we are bringing two expressions of that work together.
Join us on Friday, December 4, from 6–8 p.m for the in person launch or Thursday, December 17 for the virtual launch of At the Gates: Black Women, Knowledge, and Liberation in Higher Education and a special preview of Writing as Sacred Practice.
At the Gates brings together the work of twenty Black women contributing research and critical essays about the experiences of Black women faculty, staff, and students in higher education. These stories matter. Our experiences matter. And the knowledge we produce deserves to be preserved, shared, and used to shape the institutions and communities we inhabit.
This is more than a book. Each chapter includes reflection and application questions that invite readers to connect with the experiences shared and consider how we can create conditions in which Black women thrive.
We will also share a preview of Writing as Sacred Practice, another expression of our commitment to the relationship between writing, spirit, memory, and knowledge. Whether we are writing a memoir, a theological reflection, or an academic essay, our words carry pieces of who we are, what we know, and what we are called to preserve.
Together, these projects reflect what Aya Collective Publishing has been building: a space where Black women's stories are sacred, our knowledge is valued, and our writing helps shape what is possible for those who come after us.
Join us as we gather, celebrate, and give thanks for the work we have done—and the work still ahead.
