Champagne Tasting on a Monday? Absolutely. 🥂
A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to spend several days in Champagne, visiting some truly wonderful houses and, naturally, tasting some rather lovely wines along the way.
One of the highlights of the trip was a visit to Champagne Deutz, so you can imagine my delight when I heard that Cyrille Harmel, their Export Director, would be visiting the UK. We've managed to persuade him to venture north to Edinburgh, and I'm delighted to invite you to a very special evening exploring the wines of this exceptional house.
Founded in 1838 and based in the historic village of Aÿ, in the heart of Champagne's finest Pinot Noir country, Deutz has long been celebrated for its beautifully elegant, finely balanced Champagnes. Now part of the Louis Roederer family, the house combines traditional winemaking with an unwavering commitment to quality. The wines have a wonderful purity and finesse, from their classic blends to the extraordinary prestige cuvées.
Cyrille will be joining us to guide us through a selection of Deutz Champagnes, sharing stories from the house and a little insight into what makes these wines so special. Having spent time with him in Champagne, I can also promise he's tremendous fun, so we're in for a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
We'll be taking over the lovely Tasting Room at Smith & Gertrude, an intimate setting for what promises to be a rather convivial Monday evening. We’ll taste through 7 wines from the Deutz collection, including a glass of their NV on arrival. Inspired by my trip, we will finish the tasting with the incredible single vinyard Meurtet 2015 - a personal highlight that I can’t wait for you to try.
