About this Event
ASL Level 1 is designed for individuals new to ASL or those looking to refresh their basic skills. By the end of the course, students will be able to engage in simple conversations, introduce themselves, and ask basic questions. This course establishes a foundation in ASL grammar, vocabulary, and Deaf culture. The teacher will provide all class material required. This class is taught in immersion with no voice, so as to more quickly assimilate students into the culture. This curriculum includes: Sign Language Basics: Learning the ASL alphabet (fingerspelling), numbers, and core vocabulary. Conversational Skills: Developing basic conversational abilities through practice and role-playing. Cultural Awareness: Gaining an introduction to Deaf culture and communication norms. Visual Language Development: Refining facial expressions and body language for effective communication. Independent Practice: Utilizing provided resources to reinforce learning outside of class.
