About this Event
Have You Been Offered a Glucose Test or Had Concerns About Your Blood Pressure?
Pregnancy can sometimes feel full of appointments, tests, numbers and medical terminology. You may be told you need a glucose tolerance test, have your blood pressure checked regularly, or need additional monitoring — without always feeling completely clear about why.
Join MEA and midwives from local maternity services for another Ask the Midwife session — a relaxed and welcoming conversation designed to help you better understand some of the routine and additional checks you may experience during pregnancy.
What We'll Talk About
🩸 Glucose Testing in Pregnancy
Explore why some women are offered a glucose tolerance test (GTT), what happens during the test and what the results may mean for your maternity care.
🩺 Understanding Blood Pressure Checks
Learn why blood pressure is monitored throughout pregnancy and why your maternity team may recommend additional checks or monitoring.
🔢 Making Sense of Tests & Numbers
Healthcare information can sometimes feel overwhelming. We'll help make some of the terminology around these pregnancy checks easier to understand.
🏥 Care Across Different NHS Trusts
Midwives from different local NHS Trusts will be part of the conversation, providing an opportunity to understand how pathways, processes and available support may differ between hospitals.
🗣️ Feeling Confident Asking Questions
Explore questions you can ask your midwife or maternity team when a test, result or recommendation isn't clear to you.
❓ Ask the Midwife
There will be plenty of opportunity to ask general questions in a relaxed, supportive environment.
Who Is This Session For?
This session is particularly relevant if you:
- Have been offered a glucose tolerance test during pregnancy.
- Have questions about gestational diabetes screening.
- Have had concerns raised about your blood pressure.
- Are receiving additional monitoring during pregnancy.
- Simply want to better understand these aspects of maternity care.
Important Information
This is an information and education session. MEA and participating midwives will provide general information and signposting rather than individual medical advice, diagnosis or personalised recommendations.
If you have concerns about your blood pressure, glucose levels, symptoms or any other aspect of your pregnancy, please contact your own midwife, GP, maternity triage or relevant maternity team for individual clinical advice.
Come with your questions and leave with a clearer understanding of the checks, conversations and support that may form part of your pregnancy journey.
