Joke Writing Made Simple Workshop 1:30pm-3pm – Taugh by Rachelle Cochran
Ever have a funny idea but no idea how to turn it into an actual joke? In this interactive 90-minute workshop, comedian and stand-up instructor Rachelle Cochran will teach two practical, repeatable techniques for finding the funny. First, you’ll learn the Reverse, a structure used by comedians like Anthony Jeselnik that leads an audience toward one assumption before flipping it in an unexpected direction. Then, you’ll learn the Listing Technique, a brainstorming method that uses word association and incongruity to uncover surprising connections and generate punchlines. Through guided writing exercises and examples from professional comedians, you’ll put both techniques into practice and leave with simple, repeatable tools for turning everyday observations, stories, and ideas into stand-up material.

Rachelle Cochran is a high-energy, sharp-tongued, unapologetically queer comedian blending big-hearted silliness with razor-edged observations. Think quirky lesbian next door, except she has a microphone and significantly more opinions. She’s opened for Cameron Esposito, performed at SF Sketchfest and the All Jane Comedy Festival, and received her most prestigious critical acclaim from a DoorDash driver, who called her comedy “not too bad.”
