Cowgirl Gallery presents Perch – Touching Distance by Japanese artist Asako Shiroki.Opening night:
30/10, 18:00–21:00
Asako Shiroki (b. 1979, Tokyo, Japan) lives and works in Berlin and Tokyo. Working with a wide range of materials, primarily wood, Shiroki creates sculptures and installations in which the inherent chance and abstraction of the materials are regarded as the presence of an “other” with its own mode of perception.
Shiroki’s practice revolves around the fleeting points of contact where different worlds momentarily meet without fully overlapping. By giving these encounters sculptural form, she explores different layers of perception, memory, history, and experience. Her work quietly questions fixed boundaries and established concepts, opening up new possibilities for relationships and dialogue.
At Cowgirl Gallery, Shiroki presents the solo exhibition Perch – Touching Distance, Through sculpture, video, and drawing, she explores the relationships between places and experiences. The title refers to a temporary resting place where these different worlds can approach and touch one another.
Using wood, plants, quartz sand and mirrors, Shiroki reflects on migration, belonging, and cultural movement. By allowing time, change, and chance to become part of the artistic process, she gives temporary form to relationships, distances and memories.
Exhibition period: 30.10–22.11.2026
