About this Event
"Dallas College and Plaza of the Americas are pleased to announce Beauty from the Discarded, a solo exhibition by Dallas-based sculptor Joaquin Soto, as the next exhibition at Artspace of the Americas, a community-focused gallery space in downtown Dallas.
Launched in spring 2026, Artspace of the Americas brings Dallas College exhibitions and creative programming into the heart of downtown through a partnership between the School of Creative Arts, Entertainment, and Design and Plaza of the Americas. Located within the landmark Plaza of the Americas complex, just south of the Dallas Arts District, the gallery creates opportunities to showcase the work of Dallas College students, alumni, and faculty while also engaging artists and communities from across the area.
Joaquin Soto is a Dallas-based sculptor and alumnus of the metalworking program at Dallas College Mountain View Campus. Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, Soto immigrated to the United States at a young age and found his calling in the arts through that journey. He received his BFA in Visual Arts and Art Education Certification from the University of North Texas and currently teaches Metal Art at the Creative Arts Center of Dallas.
Soto's work explores ideas of identity and belonging through the transformation of repurposed materials. Working primarily with discarded objects and metals, he gives overlooked materials new life and new meaning, finding connections to his own human experience through the restorative process of making. As Soto states, "In the end, I wish to honor my past, enjoy the present, and prepare for the future through my art."
