About this Event

WORKSHOP #1 - Weight of the Words
The Weight of Words focuses on changing the trajectory of trauma through the arts. The W.O.W, Art Out Loud workshop will focus on the power of storytelling through artistic expression using paint, line and rhymes. Youth will create artistic masks and tell their story about youth violence and the dreams they have for their communities and overall society.
WORKSHOP #2 -Musical Artistry
Address how young people may be dealing with anger, trauma, and frustration. Music (songwriting, hip-hop, and other genres). Consider incorporating multimedia (videos, music, art displays) to make the workshop more engaging and interactive. Provide handouts or digital resources about art-based programs, scholarships, and mentorship opportunities for youth. If possible, offer a live art demonstration (e.g., graffiti artist or live music performance) during or after the workshop to further engage the audience.
WORKSHOP #3- Strut Talk Runway Therapy
This workshop blends movement, fashion, and nonverbal expression to reveal the impact of body language. Using runway walking as a form of IMpowerment, participants will discover how posture and presence communicate strength, resilience, and self-confidence. The session ends with a heartfelt tribute walk, honoring those lost to gun violence—where each step becomes a powerful message of remembrance and advocacy.
WORKSHOP #4 - Artistry of Movement
The We will discuss the importance of expressing dance with whatever experiences, feelings and emotions the students may have to make each move authentic, genuine and impactful. Each person has a story to tell, which they can do in their own interpretation that no one on earth can duplicate so they must stand up and express themselves boldly. I will use an inspirational hip hop song to do so (TBD) so they will be inspired to become their best selves regardless of circumstances.
