Art is deeply shaped by the work that came before it. Remixes, tributes, and homages all highlight the ongoing dialogue between past and present artistic movements, where new works are born from the influence of older ones. Artists often honor their predecessors by referencing or reinterpreting iconic pieces, whether through direct homages, playful parodies, or reimagining classical works in modern contexts. Enjoy a screening of experimental short films by students from Professor Carleen Maur’s Advanced Experimental Production media arts course at the USC School of Visual Art and Design. Pushing the boundaries of traditional filmmaking, these young auteurs remixed existing films to reimagine and transform the source material, employing nontraditional storytelling techniques to explore new ways of presenting narratives and ideas.
