Join Tsering Asha Leba, Senior Editor at Avenue Magazine, and Alicia L'Archeveque, Editor of The Scene, to learn the basics of connecting with local media and gain confidence in sharing your story!
This workshop is designed to help artists at all levels better understand the media process, from making connections to pitching your work and building relationships with storytellers. We’ll cover how to connect witheditors at Avenue and The Scene, RedPoint Media publications, how to share your story, and what makes a strong pitch. You’ll also take part in an Elevator Pitch activity, where you’ll practice introducing yourself and your work in one minute, with opportunities to receive feedback and refine your pitch. Through practical tips and hands-on exercises, you’ll leave with more confidence in sharing your story and connecting with the media.
Workshops are recommended for people ages 16 and over. Children under 16 years old are welcome with parent/guardian supervision. Please get a ticket for each person (incl. all children).
The workshop is admission by donation! Suggested $20 - $30 to support facilitator fees and supplies.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR:
Tsering Asha Leba is a writer and editor based in Calgary. As the senior editor at Avenue, she develops the magazine’s editorial direction and content, which covers lifestyle, culture, city-building and more. In 2025, her work behind the Avenue Innovation Newsletter, a weekly newsletter profiling local tech entrepreneurs, was recognized with the Gold Innovation Award by the Alberta Magazine Publishers Association. Her goal is to tell compelling stories that reflect the unique identity and values of Calgarians.
Alicia L'Archevêque is a Calgary-based writer and the editor of The Scene, a local arts and culture magazine that covers events, artist profiles and more. Her written work has been published in magazines including Avenue, Create Calgary, Spur and Discorder. She is passionate about arts and culture reporting that is relevant to Calgarians and fascinating to all.

Alcove Centre for the Arts (alcoveartscentre.ca) is a charity based in Calgary, AB which aims to make art more accessible and promote a vibrant local arts industry. We curate and cultivate community art spaces for Calgarians to engage in art and creativity while building a platform for emerging local artists. Alcove Centre for the Arts has two locations: Alcove Core and Alcove Beltline.
Alcove Core (244 7 Ave SW) is a Recreational Art Space open to the public providing free art supplies and instruments to stimulate creativity. The space also acts as a gathering place for workshops, community events, and social meetups. Come visit and get creative!
Alcove Beltline (1040 8 St SW) is a multi-use, flexible venue that is available to book for private or public events. If you are looking for an affordable space that has equipment rentals available, in a central location, for 75-100 people at a time, then this space may be a great fit for you!
