Spring Street Gallery will host an artist talk with photographer Jon Dragonette on November 14 from 7 to 8 pm at 110 Spring Street. Dragonette will speak about The Wilderness Within, his solo exhibition of platinum palladium prints shot on 4x5 film in the Adirondack Mountains. The talk will explore the making of the work: a winter of solo climbs that began, in the artist’s words, “not as a project, but as a need, to step outside the noise, into a landscape vast enough to hold questions I couldn’t yet name.” Dragonette will also discuss the platinum palladium process, a hand-coated, hand-processed technique developed in the 1870s that embeds the image in the fibers of cotton rag paper.
“In the act of making a photograph, everything would go quiet,” Dragonette says. “The camera gave me a way to listen, to reflect, and to begin making sense of what I was carrying.”
The exhibition is on view through December 11.
