On 14 October, ISSP is happy to host American-Lithuanian photographer and independent publisher Andrew Miksys for an artist talk on his long-term photographic projects, their transformation into photobooks, and the possibilities of independent publishing.For more than twenty-five years, Miksys has photographed people and places in Lithuania, Belarus, and the United States – often focusing on environments and communities that exist outside the usual focus of attention. His long-term projects often take the form of photobooks, where sequencing, design, and the physical form of the publication become integral parts of the work. During the talk, he will also discuss the founding of ARÖK Books and the Žagarė Photobook Workshop, which brings participants from around the world to Žagarė for a week of working with publishing and design experts from our region.
Andrew Miksys is an American-Lithuanian photographer and independent publisher. After many years in Vilnius, he moved to Žagarė, a small town on the Lithuanian–Latvian border. His work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Seattle Art Museum, MO Museum in Vilnius, and Maureen Paley in London. He is the recipient of grants from the Fulbright Program and the Guggenheim Foundation and has worked on fashion projects with Vetements, GUCCI, and Marc Jacobs.

14. oktobrī aicinām uz tikšanos ar amerikāņu izcelsmes lietuviešu fotogrāfu un grāmatu izdevēju Andrew Miksys, kurš dalīsies pieredzē darbā ar ilgtermiņa fotogrāfiskiem projektiem, to pārtapšanu fotogrāmatās un neatkarīgo izdevējdarbību.
Miksys vairāk nekā 25 gadus ir fotografējis Lietuvā, Baltkrievijā un ASV, bieži pievēršoties vidēm un kopienām, kas atrodas ārpus ierastās uzmanības centra. Viņa ilgtermiņa projekti bieži tiek veidoti kā fotogrāmatas, kurās attēlu secība, dizains un pats izdevuma formāts kļūst par neatņemamu darba daļu - tostarp BAXT, DISKO, TULIPS un BINGO. Sarunā viņš pievērsīsies arī neatkarīgās izdevniecības ARÖK Books izveidei un Žagarės fotogrāmatu darbnīcai, kas pulcē dalībniekus no dažādām pasaules valstīm, lai nedēļas garumā strādātu ar Lietuvas un Latvijas izdevējdarbības un dizaina profesionāļiem.
Andrew Miksys ir amerikāņu izcelsmes lietuviešu fotogrāfs un neatkarīgais izdevējs. Pēc daudziem Viļņā pavadītiem gadiem viņš pārcēlies uz Žagarē – nelielu pilsētu pie Lietuvas un Latvijas robežas. Miksys darbi izstādīti starptautiski, tostarp Sietlas Mākslas muzejā, MO muzejā Viļņā un galerijā Maureen Paley Londonā. Viņš ir saņēmis Fulbraita programmas un Gugenheima fonda grantus, kā arī veidojis modes projektus kopā ar Vetements, GUCCI un Marc Jacobs.
