About this Event
An artist reception and dance performance celebrating the works of Bruna Massadas. The art is installed at the RDE studios for dancers to draw inspiration and create choreography that is performed at the reception. The works will be on display and there is a casual performance experience with general admission seating. Performance pieces will feature choreography by Mia Wheeler, Lotti Lofgren and Caeleb Heinen. The studio will open at 6:30, and the choreography will be performed twice, at 7 and 8PM.
Massadas's work plays with the abstraction of regonizable objects. Inspired by her son, she explores how objects may appear in dream-form. She writes, "In these drawings and paintings, I focused on the apple as an object of meditation. Repeated over and over, it transformed into a nebula, a black hole, and a planet. It became something playful, cosmic, and existential—the only realm that feels large enough to capture the love between a mother and son. Ultimately, the apple became a silly, cartoony object that carries the entire universe inside it."
Bruna is a Montana-based painter originally from Brazil. From 2018–2021 Massadas exhibited with Binder of Women, and from 2016–2018 she was a member of CTRL+SHFT collective. In 2025, she was awarded a Creative West Grant; she had a solo exhibition at de boer Gallery (Los Angeles) and McClain Gallery (Houston). Massadas's work has been exhibited across Montana in 2026.
